FERRING WAR MEMORIAL

Ferring is a village in the area surrounding Worthing on the A259. The war memorial is situated at the junction of Ferring Street and Sea Lane, on Ferring Street, Ferring, Arun, West Sussex. It takes the form of a Crusader style cross with tall stem on a rough hewn plinth with the whole memorial set on an additional square plinth added after World War 2 along with a single step. The memorial contains five names for World War 1 and 25 for World War 2. It was unveiled by Colonel Matthew Purcell and consecrated by the Archdeacon of Chichester 6 November 1921.

Rifleman 5681 3rd Battalion Rifle Brigade. Died 1st September 1916, Aged 21. Son of Henry James Hoare and Mary A Hoare, of Ferring, Sussex. No known grave. Commemorated on The Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. Pier and Face 16 B and 16 C.
