Son of Bertram George & Kathleen Agnes Buchanan of Oxenbridge, Iden. Listed on Battle of Britain Roll of Honour. Commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

Marine CH/X 627, H.M.N.Z.S. Achilles, Royal Marines. Died on 5th January 1943, when his ship was hit by Japanese aircraft in Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands. Aged 30. Born 12th June 1912 in Iden, Sussex, to Richard Edward Coleman, a gardener, and Alice Matilda Hart. Son of Richard Edward and Alice Matilda Coleman; husband of Evelyn May Coleman, of Sittingbourne, Kent. In 1921 the family were living in Main Street, Iden, Rye, Sussex. He a Private in the Royal Marines when, aged 18, he married Evelyn May Nelson Richardson (a Shop Assistant, aged 19), 6 June 1931 in Chatham, St Mary, and they were recorded as living at 4 Arthur Street, Sittingbourne in the 1939 Register. No known grave. Commemorated on CHATHAM NAVAL MEMORIAL, Kent. Panel 73, Column 2. |
