| BOUSELL | Albert Ernest | Telegraphist
Service No P/J 78305 Royal Navy. Son of William and Alice Maud Bousell
and husband of Ada Dorothy Bousell of Southwick. Lost at sea on
board HM Submarine Union, when she was sunk by an Italian torpedo
boat in the Mediterranean. 22nd July 1941 aged 39. His name is commemorated
on Portsmouth Naval Memorial |

Service No14735983 Kings Shropshire Light Infantry Died 26th February
1945 aged 18. Buried Rheinburg War Cemetery, Germany. The inscription
on his gravestone reads ‘The evening star shines on the grave of
one we loved but could not save’ |
| FISH | Stanley James | Sapper
Service No 2073051 626 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers. Born 1920
in Steyning, the son of Albert and Catherine Fish. Killed in action
6th November 1943 in Italy, aged 23. He is buried at Sangro River
War Cemetery, Italy. The inscription on his gravestone reads ‘Not
gone from memory, not gone from love, but gone to our father’s home
above’ His name also appears on the Small Dole memorial. |

Corporal Service No 7899471 ‘B’ Squadron 13/18 Hussars Royal Armoured
Corp. Son of John & Florence Ford of Steyning, and husband of Laura
Ford of Plaistow, Essex. He died 9th August 1944, aged 26, and is
buried at St Manvieu Cemetery, Cheux, France |
| FORSTER | Ronald Arthur Victory | Sergeant
Service No 6406158 1st battalion Royal Sussex Regiment. Ronald was
born 2nd Feb 1916 in Suffolk, the son of Spencer & Mary Forster.
In 1939 the family were living in Kings Stone Avenue Steyning. He
was killed in action 13th July 1944. Aged 28, and is buried in Arezzo
War Cemetery, Toscana, Italy. His name also appears on the Steyning
memorial. |
| GASTON | Frank Edward | Leading
Aircraftsman Service No 976285 RAF Volunteer Reserve. Frank was
the son of Albert and Charlotte Gaston of Dacre Villas, Upper Beeding,
and the husband of Winfred Gaston of Rosyth, Scotland. He died 12th
July 1944, aged 23, and is buried at Biguglia War Cemetery, Haute-
Corse, France. |
| KING | Geoffrey Sholto Douglas | Captain
Service No 164667 Lincolnshire Regiment. He was the son of Henry
Douglas and Mary Beatrice King, of Small Dole, Sussex. Geoffrey
died 5th February 1945, aged 32, and is buried at Nederweert War
Cemetery, Limburg, Netherlands. |
| OWEN | Evan Alfred | Private
Service No 6086630. 2nd battalion Queens Royal Regt (West Surrey).
He enlisted in 1936 and was killed in action 3rd January 1941. Evan
is buried at the Halfaya Solum War Cemetery, Egypt. |
| SEARLE | Ernest Arthur | Stoker
1st Class Service No P/KX 91058 Royal Navy. He was the son of Ernest
Philip & Daisy Amelia Searle of Beeding, Sussex. Ernest was lost
at sea on the 18th February 1940 while serving on HMS Daring when
she was sunk in the North Sea by a German submarine. His name is
commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. |
| TIPLER | Charles Frederick | Sergeant
Service No 6404093, 1st battalion Royal Sussex Regiment. He was
the son of Bertie and Ethel Tipler of Beeding, Sussex. Charles died
on the 29th February 1944, aged 24, and is buried at the Cassino
War Cemetery, Italy. |
| WOOLGAR | Frank Burnaby Clifford | Driver
Service No T/66668 Royal Army Service Corp. He was the son of E
Woolgar of Beeding, Sussex. Frank died 26th March 1941 aged23, and
is buried in St Peters Church Churchyard Extension, Upper Bedding,
Sussex. |
