Past Grand Master of Loyal National Lodge, Manchester Oddfellows. To Australia c1913. Enlisted Perth, Western Australia. Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli. Born in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, England, the son of William Butt of Turyhirm, Wisbech. He was unmarried. Before emigrating to Australia, he was employed as an auxiliary postman in Guyhirn and Ring’s End, Cambridgeshire, and was a Primitive Methodist minister, but in Australia he was employed as a labourer. On March 6, 1915, he enlisted in the A.I.F. in Perth, Western Australia, but his service did not actually commence until April 16. Killed in action on October 7, 1915, aged 28 years. Name commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial
