10 November 1897 in Manchester, Lancashire, son of Elizabeth Ann
Kershaw. In the 1901 census he was aged 3, born manchester, Lancashire,
son of Elizabeth Kershaw, resident 3, Plato Street, Manchester,
Lancashire. In the 1911 census he was aged 13, born Harpurhey, Lancashire,
a School newsboy, son of Alexander and Elizabeth Ann McDonnell (stepson),
brother of Annie Kershaw, resident 92 Conran Street, Harpurhey Manchester,
North Manchester, Lancashire. Army Reserve 12 December 1915, Royal
Naval Volunteer Reserve for Royal Naval Division 12 August 1917.
Mobilised 21 August 1917., 4th Reserve Battalion. Able Seaman 17
December 1917 with nelson Battalion, Royal Naval Division. Assigned
Drake Battalion 7 February 1918. Admitted to 48 Casualty Clearing
Station, transferred to 149th Field Ambulance hospital suffering
from gas shell poisoning 12 March 1918. Reassigned Drake Battalion
6 August 1918. Buried in CROISILLES BRITISH CEMETERY, Pas de Calais,
